As I have moved to a greener lifestyle over the last few years, I am always looking for ways to re-use and recycle old items. I hate to throw things away that could be used for other purposes, and I am always dreaming up new uses for old items. When I have old cotton shirts that are stained or ripped, I cut them into small squares and use them for cleaning. I save my coffee creamer containers and wash them out to hold snacks for my toddler- the pour spout is a great way for him to feed himself without making a mess! I use old socks with holes as rags for polishing our furniture. I save all of my packing materials from online orders and reuse the bubble wrap and padded envelopes when shipping my own orders. There are so many uses for old things, I could go on and on! If the items are in good condition but no longer being used I always donate them so another person can give them a new life.
After recently receiving a beautiful bouquet of flowers from my husband, I decided to give my wilting roses a second life. I love to make my own skincare products so I can control the ingredients, and decided to make homemade Rosewater. Rosewater is a beautiful base ingredient for skincare products, and it provides lots of benefits to your skin. You can buy rosewater at natural stores or online, but since I had the roses already I decided to try my hand at homemade! I made a pot of homemade rosewater by boiling water, and throwing the rinsed rose petals in to steep. I turned off the water and let them steep for about 35 minutes and then took them out. Once the water was completely cooled I stored it in glass jars in the refrigerator. So easy!
My first use for my rosewater was as a face toner. I poured some water into a small spray bottle and misted my face morning and night before applying moisturizer. The water smells great, and makes your skin silky and soft.
Rosewater can also be used as a base for homemade lotion. Substitute the distilled water in your recipe for rosewater and you will have a wonderfully scented lotion. Rosewater can be used in your bath. I poured a few cups into a back with Epsom salts for a nice detoxing and moisturizing bath. Rosewater can also be used in food and drink recipes! I found multiple recipes online for rosewater teas, and rosewater spritzer drinks!
Thank you for this! I love rosewater!
I never thought of doing that. I only usually get roses once or twice a year but I will have to keep this in mind.
I don’t get them often either, but this was a nice little treat and a great way to extend their life! It is especially refreshing to have in a small spray bottle to cool off on hot summer days.
